Insurance for Johannesburg and Sandton

Independent car, home and business cover for Johannesburg, arranged and claimed for by the same two people every time. Our office is twenty minutes down the N12.

Johannesburg

A city that prices its own risk

Johannesburg is not one insurance market. What you pay in Sandton, Soweto, Randburg or Midrand differs sharply, and for reasons worth understanding before you accept anyone’s first quote.

  • Hijacking is rated separately from theft. Johannesburg carries some of the highest vehicle crime rates in the country, and insurers respond with tracking device requirements, higher excesses on certain models, and in some cases refusal to cover specific high-target vehicles without additional security. Comprehensive cover does include hijacking, but the conditions attached to it are where claims are won and lost.
  • Sectional title gaps. An enormous share of Johannesburg lives in complexes and apartments. The body corporate insures the building; it does not insure your contents, your improvements to the unit, or your personal liability. We see this gap constantly, usually after a burst pipe upstairs has already ruined somebody’s furniture.
  • Traffic density means more claims. More kilometres in heavier traffic produces more accidents, which is reflected in premiums across the metro. If you work from home two or three days a week, that genuinely changes your risk profile and is worth declaring.
  • Storm and hail on the same Highveld system. Johannesburg sits under the same summer storm belt as Alberton. Vehicles parked on the street in Sandton hail just as hard as they do anywhere else on the Reef.
How this works from Alberton

Why a broker based in Gauteng still works for Johannesburg

Alberton is inside greater Johannesburg. We are roughly half an hour from Sandton, Randburg or Midrand on a good day, and we do meet Johannesburg clients in person where it makes sense, particularly for commercial risks where seeing the premises changes the submission.

For everything else, remote is genuinely better. You are not sitting in traffic to sign a form we could have sent you on WhatsApp.

  • Our FAIS licence (FSP 46080) is national, not provincial
  • The insurers we work with underwrite countrywide
  • Quotes, advice and claims run on phone, email and WhatsApp
  • Assessors and repairers are appointed local to you by the insurer
  • You deal with Anton or Chammy every time, not a rotating call centre
Local questions

Questions we get from this part of the country

Often yes, but it depends on the vehicle, its value and the suburb. Overnight parking is one of the questions that most affects a motor premium in this city. Answer it honestly, because insurers verify it after a theft claim and a wrong answer is material non-disclosure.

Your household contents, any improvements you have made to the unit, and personal liability. The body corporate’s policy covers the building structure and common property, funded by your levy. It does not cover your possessions. Send us your levy statement and we will tell you exactly where the line falls.

For commercial risks, usually yes. For personal lines it is rarely necessary, and most clients prefer WhatsApp to an appointment. Whichever you would rather do is fine.
